Favorita’s Waters
A journey into La Favorita peri-urban garden, exploring Palermo ancient hydric systems, investigating water through spectacle design as social and cultural device

The Mediterranean garden is a space of cultivation, culture, and care, capable of preserving biodiversity while activating practices of social cohesion and territorial resistance. The Parco della Favorita in Palermo represents a stratified system in which nature and artifice, design and spontaneity, have coexisted for centuries thanks to a sophisticated water infrastructure.

The Summer School Favourite’s Waters explores the contemporary role of this peri-urban garden as a reservoir of water&care practices, through mapping, archi-botanic surveys, and collaborative design interventions conceived as replicable prototypes for addressing the future ecological challenges of Mediterranean cities. Over the course of the week we will wander around the City, its natural reservoirs and cultural spaces to explore the relationship between water and common spaces for conviviality.

Mediterranean garden
We will be conducting sitework at La Favorita garden in Palermo + collective work based in Teatro Garibaldi hosted by local association Rizoma

Speculative design

Collective work
A common research guided through the experience of Flavia Saggese and Wunder collective, spiced up by our guest’s lectures and supported by local associations background

If we could live all together everywhere,
how would we do it?

Could we occupy the city
as we were planting seeds,
and watch them grow?

Could we be light, and dispersed,
and yet shape our cities
with strength and care?
